4 Tips To Help Boost Your Immunity In London This Autumn

It’s so exciting to be embracing some beautiful Autumn/Winter Collections, and the fur hoods and wellies are out! We all know that hot/cold feeling of rushing in and out of tube stations, and the sly seat swap to avoid a sniffly co-passenger. As cold and flu season takes hold, we asked Stephanie Fitzpatrick – the glowing face behind The Health and Wellness Method – for her top tips on how to boost your immunity!
1. COLD AND FLU SUPERHEROS
It is vital to boost our immune systems with. The best source of Vitamin D comes straight from sunlight, so as Londoners we need to get smart and creative with our ‘D intake’!
My tips? Ethically sourced, high-quality fish like salmon, tuna and mackerel are a good starting point. For veggies and vegans; mushrooms and egg yolks will give you a boost. Research and speak with your local health food store or professional to identify the best quality Vitamin D supplement.
Add garlic wherever possible. It is fantastic for the immune system and is packed with anti-viral components.
Make friends with green veg. The phytonutrients help to keep a cold or flu at bay. Fennel, kale, rocket, leeks, watercress and cabbage are all currently in season. Stock up with some great London-based companies like Cycling Veg, Growing Communities or from a Farmers Market near you.
2. MOVE IT
Heat that cold bod up! Sweating works the lymphatic system, draining toxins from the body. A few of my favourite yoga spots in London include Triyoga, Hot Bikram Yoga, or some of the freebie classes at Nike Training Club or Sweaty Betty.
3. SMOOTH AND JUICY
Cold-pressed juice and smoothie bars are popping up all over London. This is one of the easiest ways to up your fruit and veg intake. Aim for higher veg to fruit ratio, keeping sugar levels balanced. Or, if you’re looking for quick, cheap and simple winter smoothie recipes –  head over to the Health and Wellness Method for some of mine.
4. CITY STRESS
Living in a city like London during winter can be stressful. Stress weakens the immune system making it a haven for colds. Take time out, get into nature; discover new and peaceful corners of London city.
Some of my favourite spots include the Old English Garden in Battersea Park, or stopping off at the Inn in St James’s Park for a warming herbal tea and crowd watching, or going to the Southbank Centre for Yoga with a view.
