Ren Skincare

Ren sum up their philosophy in three words: performance, purity and pleasure. It’s a brand that manages to put your skincare first without sacrificing the performance of the products. That means no nasty chemicals or unfriendly synthetic ingredients. They have a whole range of products that are perfect for any of your summer woes. Our favourite? The Satin Perfection BB Cream ticks all the boxes: gives your skin SPF and anti-oxidant protection, smoothens your skin without the oiliness of your typical skin products, and keeps your skin looking firm and toned (not your abs unfortunately). It’s only for your face and neck so don’t get too overexcited – there’s the Wild Yam body cream for that.

If you’ve got a bit more time on your hands we’d suggest this fab face mask that removes dead skin and combats congestion from all the unfortunate residue of summer in the city.

Pai Skincare

If Madeleine Shaw loves it then we’re definitely in; Pai IS the Glow. Pai was developed by a lovely lady, Sarah Brown, who was told that taking a high-dose of anti-histamines on a daily basis was the only way to manage her skin; boy, were they wrong. Luckily for us, her Doctor’s mistake meant the creation of her own chemical free, natural skincare range. All of the products are British developed and made and all of its ingredients are certified organic by the Soil Association.

Pai’s camellia & rose gentle hydrating cleanser is a go-to all round product for summer and beyond. It is suitable for all skin types and uses organic ingredients to cleanse your face morning and night and rid your skin of any of the unwanted things that are a byproduct is living in London: pollen, pollution, and anything and everything that somehow makes its way onto the tube. It removes any dirt or build up on your skin and is full of omega 3 and vitamins A,C, D, and E that make it so much more than just your run of the mill cleanser.

Neal’s Yard Remedies

It wouldn’t really be a post about natural skincare products without mentioning Neal’s Yard, would it now? They are some of London’s top pioneers in ethical skincare; they opened their doors in the then-forgotten hidey-hole of Neal’s Yard in 1981 and have never looked back.

Neal’s Yard have a collection exclusively for sun protection and in particular for travelling. The Travel Bush Flower Essence is ideal for nervous flyers or long haul flights. Made from some of our favourite plants including paw paw and bottlebrush, it works to overcome flying anxiety naturally as well as making it easier to adjust after travel fatigue.

The Neal’s Yard After Sun spray is another Welltodo favourite, helping your skin adjust to the hotter weather. It’s made from a delicate mixture of chamomile and aloe vera that acts to soothe and cool your skin (especially after too much time in the sun). They make no promises of curing those sunglasses-tanlines – but it will give you’re skin some respite, and it’s best chance at healing.

Skin & Tonic

We got together not long ago with Sarah Hancock, founder of Skin and Tonic and we’re still just as in love with this company now as we were then. Describing it as “minimal, organic skincare” Sarah recognised the plethora of reasons Londoners need proper skin care – pollution, central heating, and the day-to-day stress of the city, and that’s without the added effort of our skin trying to adapt to the warmer weather.

Skin & Tonic’s Steam Clean cleansing balm is one of the best things you can give your skin this warm season – a simple but powerful mixture of British Thistle, Eucalyptus and Spearmint helps to clear your skin of dirt and rejuvenate dull, tired skin. This multitasking little jar works as a makeup remover as well, meaning you don’t need a complex beauty routine. Oh, and there is Skin & Tonic beard oil for all of those café-haunting hipsters that get a bit of, erhm, “beard itch”.
