Botanic Lab Launches UK’s First CBD Soft Drink

LONDON, United Kingdom — Disruptive functional drinks brand Botanic Lab has launched a groundbreaking Cannabidiol Botanical Tea Drink in an attempt to shake up the social drinking landscape.

The product, which claims to be a first for the UK market, combines sour cherry and floral hibiscus with botanical hemp CBD extract.

“CBD is one of many compounds or ‘cannabinoids’ that make up the Cannabis Sativa plant, and the one that has received most interest in the health community for its potentially beneficial uses,” commented the brand in an official statement.

“CBD is not psychoactive and will not get you high – essentially, we have taken the healthy part of the cannabis and put it into a drink.”

Heralded for its ability to reduce anxiety along with a myriad of other health benefits, CBD has risen to prominence within the wellness sector of late, sparking the creation of everything from low-dosage cannabis candies to hemp bath salts.

At the “In Goop Health” conference in Los Angeles earlier this year, even Gwyneth Paltrow could be found extolling its virtues.

“It really has the potential to shift old patterns of thought and change lives, and I feel like we really could be on the precipice of something a lot bigger than we realize, scientifically,” she exclaimed before, according to Quartzy, guests received goody bags filled with Kush Queen CBD bath bombs and Papa & Barkley pain “releaf” patches.

But beyond the buzz, the recent bombshell that Coca-Cola is considering developing a range of marijuana-infused beverages highlights just how huge the market could be.

For Botanic Lab, the use of plant-based and functional ingredients isn’t a new direction, the London-based startup has grown a cult following thanks to its groundbreaking use of ‘hero’ ingredients, chosen for their healthy properties. Its existing line of beverages have helped to successfully recontextualise the cola bean and promote the use of collagen as a restorative formula that nourishes the body from within to replenish the building blocks that an active body needs to heal.

When it comes to CBD, the brand hopes it can use the plant extract to provide consumers with a non-alcoholic solution for overcoming social anxiety, whilst giving drinkers a unique soft drink option fusing functional botanical ingredients formulated with a combination of refreshing fruits, herbs and spices.

“Consumers are increasingly bypassing alcohol in favour of soft drink options, but even in this day and age the non-alcohol choices are limited, boring and frankly a little flaccid,” explained Botanic Lab Founder Rebekah Hall.

“The introduction of this Botanical Tea Drink range is what we have been waiting for. Incorporating one of the most talked about and culturally significant plant ingredients of the last 100 years, CBD Botanical Tea is a ground-breaking drink,” she added.
