With social media drastically changing the world of fitness; one woman stands at the head of it, dumbbell in hand: Kayla Itsines. She’s inspired women from every part of the globe and now, as part of her first world tour, #KaylasArmy will unite in the British capital. Though numbers have not yet been confirmed, Kayla has taken the West Hall at London Olympia for her debut event… suggesting ample space for ab crunching revellers.

Hailing from Adelaide in South Australia, Kayla’s fame was born out of a frustration with the traditional fitness industry. After two training guides – the original Bikini Body Guide and BBG 2.0 – and a nutrition guide based on education rather than strict meals and enforcement, Kayla has launched her world tour, which will include the Netherlands, UK and USA. There were screams of delight (and disappointment) across Britain yesterday as tickets sold out in just 39 minutes. Many of her biggest fans received the memo long after the free bootcamp registration had expired.

Kayla’s premise for her workouts started with a love of basketball. The guides include 3 workouts per week in each 12-week program, and, funnily enough, include lots of jumping around, trading in the basketball for 5kg dumbbells. 5kg might not sound like a lot, your groceries probably weigh as much – but have you ever tried doing burpees with your groceries? The workouts are made for women, by a woman who understands the difficulty of trying to bridge the gap between the treadmill and the weights room and her determination to change the way women train, has certainly paid off.

#KaylasArmy (a hashtag coined by her own 2.5 million strong following) now has almost 500,000 posts attached to it – and that’s just on Instagram. The real key to Kayla’s success has been the accessibility of her workouts: 30 minute workouts 3 times a week, all downloadable to your phone, or any of your devices. There goes the “I don’t have time to go to the gym” excuse.
