Madeleine Shaw: On Nourishing From The Inside Out

She’s a nutritional health coach, chef, blogger extraordinaire and founder of the ‘Get the Glow’ programme. Madeleine Shaw already has a number of accolades under her belt; and now she can add published author to the list. Reaching number one on Amazon her debut book Get The Glow, which promotes all the principles of clean, healthy living, is generating a new cult following of #gettheglowgirls.

After spending time living in Australia (the original health capital of the world), Madeleine found herself on a mission to prove that healthy living doesn’t have to be boring – and now the queen of clean fills us in on her favourite foods, what excites her about the London health scene and what she has planned next…

HOW DID YOUR HEALTHY JOURNEY BEGIN?

I used to have terrible IBS. I went to see every doctor and tried everything but it wasn’t until I cleared up my diet that it really changed. I began working in a cafe in Sydney cooking and loved creating new dishes with healthy ingredients; I knew then I wanted to work in the health industry.

YOUR NEW BOOK IS CALLED ‘GET THE GLOW’. WHAT EXACTLY IS ‘THE GLOW’?

The glow is the look and feel of health, where your skin glows and you feel energised and happy.

DESCRIBE AN AVERAGE DAY FOR YOU…

Sadly there is no average day but it includes lots of emails, meetings, running around London, hopefully a little yoga, social media, cooking and of course a green juice!

HOW DO YOU FIT EATING HEALTHILY IN AROUND A BUSY LIFESTYLE?

It’s hard as it’s not convenient but I have become so used to it it’s the norm for me. Planning is key; I bring snacks with me and also make sure I walk to the train instead of taking the bus if I don’t have enough time to do any exercise. It’s the little things that count!

DO YOU EVER EAT ‘UNHEALTHY’ FOOD?

Not often but if I do it is proper quality, like a good lemon tart from a French patisserie.

WHAT ARE THE TOP THREE FOODS THAT YOU COULDN’T LIVE WITHOU; AND WHY ARE THEY SO GOOD FOR YOU?

Eggs: most complete source of protein
Avocado: a healthy fat that goes with everything
Coconut oil: I cook with it, and use it on my hair and body

HOW DO YOU LIKE TO KEEP FIT, AND DO YOU HAVE ANY FAVOURITE EXERCISE CLASSES IN LONDON?

How do you like to keep fit, and do you have any favourite exercise classes in London? I love Julie Monatgu’s yoga classes and a Psycle class always hits the spot if I have some steam to blow off. I am a walker at heart; I love nothing better than a long walk home.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON NATURAL BEAUTY AND WHICH PRODUCTS ARE IMPORTANT?

I love it! I’d say my cupboards are 90% natural with a few makeup products that I love which don’t quite have the organic stamp. I do believe that it is super important! I think the two most important ones are deodorant and body moisturiser – we use them so much and absorb through our skin what we put on.

WHAT EXCITES YOU MOST ABOUT THE GROWING HEALTH AND WELLNESS SCENE IN LONDON?

The amazing people I meet, everyone is so lovely; there is such a great buzz at the moment.

BEST PART OF DEVELOPING YOUR COOKBOOK?

The day I got to hold it in my hand – it suddenly felt real.

AND FINALLY… WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU?

I am developing an online program called alpha babes which brings together exercise, nutrition and mindfulness, it’s going to be epic and I can’t wait to share it with you!
