Psycle Puts A Spin On London’s Indoor Cycling Scene

We’ve got a very (very) sweet spot for cycling here at Welltodo London HQ and so were ecstatic to be invited to Psycle during its opening week in February. After years of drooling over and longing for even a morsel of America’s Soul Cycle feast, London finally has its own home-grown version – which makes us love it all the more!

We’ll acknowledge that indoor spinning isn’t a new concept and that Londoners have been cycling in gyms for years. So perhaps you’re wondering what all the hoo-har is about?

With a background in Olympic sport, Psycle’s Founder and Programme Director Tim Weeks has done all the hard work and left the fun for us. As the lights go down and the volume goes up, you’ll be spinning to the beat of a very purposeful playlist.

Don’t be fooled, Weeks has choreographed a high-energy, positively charged 45-minute routine which will strengthen, tone and deliver results. But it does seem categorically wrong to apply the term ‘workout’ – Psycle is just too much fun! You move forwards, backwards and side-to-side on the bike with dynamic arm movements reminiscent of an 80’s disco, and at one point receive direction to just get lost in your own rhythm. Clipped into your pedals and with endorphins rushing, you feel utterly unstoppable – throwing the odd fist pump to prove it.

Each class combines high-intensity interval training with low-impact upper-body movement, by incorporating the use of dumbbells during the latter half. An important aspect of the Psycle philosophy is that no air of competitiveness exists. There is a real sense of focus and determination that is projected from the front of the room, as we are encouraged to work together and give our all. The results are in; a stronger core and leaner muscle tone (don’t worry, this won’t give you Cavendish-style quads).

Weeks has recruited an entourage of dynamic Psycle instructors; including national athletes, musical stage performers and musicians – all with a unique style and engaging presence. The Psycle Instructors have been trained to lead the group in perfect synchronicity and take you on a journey beyond the depths of your physical ability.

It’s a good thing we waited until now to share the news too. Psycle have recently introduced a host of delicious extras, including their ‘Active Detox’ program – overseen by Rhian Stephenson, Psycle’s resident nutritionist. Psycle have partnered with The Detox Kitchen to offer a nutrient-rich meal delivery program to supplement your workouts. They also stock a range of Pure Earth organic cold-pressed juices to rehydrate and replenish naturally after your ride.

We love the clean, minimal interior design of the studio and the inspirational quotes plastered across the walls. Oh and you’ll also smell more incredible when you leave than when you arrived, thanks to the divine, organic ILA products provided in Psycle’s swanky changing rooms.

Psycle is a unique indoor cycling experience. You’ll sweat, smile and attempt to sing along (so long as you can still hold the pace). We can see why there is already a cult Psycle status forming… and are holding our breath for a sure expansion.
