Singing… And 4 Other Simple Ways To Alkalise Your Body!

Embracing the alkaline diet is nearly as much about your lifestyle as it is about what you put into your mouth which is why Laura Wilson, Nutritionist and expert on the Alkaline Diet, says singing is one of the more surprising ways to do it!

“An Alkaline Diet”, Laura says, “is a plant-based diet that is scientifically proven to give you more sustained daily energy and look radiant. It has also been shown to prevent, heal and reverse chronic and acute disease – everything from eczema to allergies to diabetes, heart disease and even cancer.”

There a many ways you can incorporate an alkaline diet and reap the benefits without following it to the letter. In this mini-guide, Laura offers 5 easy ways to get started and begin to alkalise your body…

1. Dry Skin Brushing

When you get up in the morning, after you have a wash or shower and before you get dressed, use a loofa, a skin brush or an abrasive wash mitt to vigorously brush your arms, legs, stomach and buttocks.

This not only gets rid of dead skin cells but also gives your lymph system a boost and thereby alkalises your body. Make your brushing movements in the direction away form your heart for maximum effectiveness.

2. Lemon Juice Upon Waking

Make your first drink of the day a freshly squeezed lemon juice in hot water. This is a great alkalizer, liver cleanser, all-round detoxifier and aids fat loss. It’s cheap, refreshing, energising and is a great way to start off your breakfast and your day.

3. Singing!

Whether it’s humming along to the radio or belting out your favourite rock song or even an operatic aria, singing is fantastic for alkalising your body. Most people tend to breath very shallowly a lot of the time, in the upper lungs. Singing forces you to breath deeper and engage your diaphragm more – providing great oxygenation.

The quick in-breaths, followed by long, sustained out-breaths give your lungs and body a chance to kick-out acidic toxins and more waste CO2 than by normal breathing.

Singing also puts you in a better mood, which is alkalizing in itself.  Join a local choir to get a great, regular, alkaline hit of singing.

4. An Hour of Power

Get outdoors in the morning for a 30-60 minute walk around your local park, by the sea or around the streets where you live. Walking is highly alkalising, it stimulates your metabolism and massages your brain, as well as being a great all-round exercise.

I like to go out first thing in the morning at around 8am, as soon as I get out of bed and after my lemon juice – before I have time to procrastinate and put it off. It’s a great idea to download an inspirational audio programme or podcast to listen to, to stimulate your grey matter as well.

5. Wheatgrass juice

Hailed as ‘nature’s superfood’, wheatgrass (the young, gluten-free leaf of the wheat plant), can help to increase your red blood-cell count and lower your blood pressure.

Wheatgrass cleanses your organs and gastrointestinal tract of unwanted debris, stimulates your body’s metabolism and the enzyme systems by enriching your blood and it also stimulates your thyroid gland, correcting obesity, indigestion, and a host of other complaints.

Drinking wheatgrass juice is also one of the quickest and most effective ways to restore alkalinity to your blood. The juice’s abundance of alkaline minerals helps reduce over-acidity in your blood system and is a powerful detoxifier and liver and blood protector. It strengthens your cells, detoxifies the liver and bloodstream, and chemically neutralizes environmental pollutants.
