Tara Stiles Tells Londoners To ‘Make Your Own Rules’

New York-based green juice and yoga sensation, Tara Stiles, was in London last week promoting her third book, the ‘Make Your Own Rules Diet’, which is as radical as it is simple truth.

For welltodo London’s Editor-in-Chief, Lauren Armes, meeting Tara was like experiencing Yoga personified. Tara has made her mark on the global health and wellness scene not because of a successful branding exercise, or clever PR; but because she is an example of what it means to practise Yoga ‘off the mat’.

In Tara’s new book, she provides a step-by-step guide to tuning into yourself in order to create a healthier lifestyle since, as Tara puts it, “you’re the expert”. Tara warns against fear-based diets which she says are “designed to be cheated on, broken up with, and crawled back to with desperation.”

“The ‘Make Your Own Rules Diet’,” she says “is all about you and how you feel. It’s about getting connected.”

“This,” Tara explains, “is all about having a healthy body and a calm, focused mind.”

Her book incorporates illustrated guides to yoga practice and meditation, and simple, plant-based recipes that work as tips and guidelines for writing your own unique rulebook.

“As you’re beginning your journey to a life of ease, there are a few things that you should keep in mind. If you can remember to do these basic things, you can easily create rules that will help you get back to your best self,” writes Tara.

Tara’s Things to Remember:

  1. Feel: Feeling should be the base for all our rules. Make decisions based on how you feel. Eat based on how you feel.
  2. Believe: When you start really feeling into yourself, you have a choice: to believe what you feel or ignore it. Believing in yourself is essential to creating lasting change and a happy life.
  3. Move: You need to move. Unfortunately, nobody can be their best self without it. We’re animals – we weren’t made to just sit around. So, yes, you’ll have to move. But remember to do so with ease.
  4. Nourish: Get in the kitchen and fix up some delicious and healthy meals. It’s not that hard, and you really will be able to tell the different in how you feel. And when you feel great, you want to eat well – so jump on that positive spiral.
  5. Have Fun: I have a policy. If it’s not fun, don’t do it! Of course there are some things in life we have to do that aren’t the most fun, but for the rest of life, we have loads of choices. We choose how we move our bodies, how we think, and what we eat.
