The Boxing House To Open New Club In London

LONDON, United Kingdom — The Boxing House is set to open its second property in London with the addition of Camden Boxing Club.

Located in Hawley Wharf Camden, a new 580,000 sq ft mixed-use development in Camden Town, the venue will span two floors — ground and basement levels — and feature two bespoke, double-boarded boxing rings, for a professional boxing experience.

The new concept will join The Boxing House’s existing brand Rathbone Boxing Club, which launched in Fitzrovia, central London in 2019.

In line with Rathbone Boxing Club, Camden Boxing Club will also offer authentic boxing, rather than boxercise or boxing-inspired classes, tailored to every fitness and skill level. Specific, technique-led sessions will be overseen by esteemed professional boxing coach, Adam Booth.

“At Camden Boxing Club we have taken the DNA of spit-and-sawdust gyms – the community, the training pedigree, the respect for the sweet science – and added some luxury trappings,” explained Co-Founder of The Boxing House, Manya Klempner.

“The secret to our success is truly understanding our patrons while still honouring the sport. Since Rathbone Boxing Club’s initial opening in 2019, we have seen our popularity skyrocket, and we are proud to now be bringing our unique blend of skill-based boxing to Hawley Wharf Camden; an iconic new development set in the heart of North London, that strongly reflects our core character. We can’t wait to #FightTogether!,” she added.

Despite the hardships of nearly a year of pandemic restrictions, Klempner says Rathbone Boxing Club has worked through the many challenges thrown its way and is coming out the other side of the crisis even stronger. It has taken the opportunity to create new opportunities out of said challenges making now the perfect time to scale.

“The economic implications of the pandemic have been harsh to the commercial rental market but we’ve taken advantage of our bargaining power to lock in some great deals,” Klempner told Welltodo.

“For our next sites, we’ve chosen great locations that are very good residential catchment areas, yet also replete with strong corporate activity so that as work-from-home eases, we will be perfectly positioned.”

Also in the pipeline is a Tower Bridge club, Klempner revealed, with the goal being to create a series of boxing clubs that are “same but different” — bringing the same ethos, quality, and vibe but for each club to be unique with its own identity.

With that in mind, Camden Boxing Club will build on the success of Rathbone Boxing Club to deliver a similar experience, albeit, on a grander scale.

At 3x the size of Rathbone Boxing Club, it has been designed to offer a much more comprehensive experience, to enable concurrent revenue streams, to accommodate a wider variety of patrons simultaneously, and to maximise cross-sell opportunities.

In addition to two boxing rings, two group class zones, and a dedicated self-train area, the site will also house a steam room, a sauna, a café, and a treatment room in collaboration with HUM2N.

And as the fitness industry continues to recover from the detrimental impact of the pandemic, Klempner is positive about the market’s future.

“The fitness industry is going stronger than ever,” she argued, citing multiple lockdowns as the motivation individuals needed to lead a more active lifestyle. And that consumers have become more interested in sport, not just fitness, off the back of their experience throughout this period.

“By its very nature, sport is more satisfying than fitness for the sake of fitness. Developing skills and progressing leads to a virtuous circle of positive reinforcement and that widespread realisation has been good for us. Our mantra is to teach “boxing as a sport” not just a form of exercise. Fitness, both mental and physical, is inevitable as a result, and the virtuous circle spins on.”
