The Cheeky New British Activewear Brand Your Body Will Love!

What happens when two sisters, passionate in equal parts about fitness and fashion, decide to launch into the activewear space with a totally flattering, British designed and made collection? We sat down with Hannah and Sarah Statman to discover how their cheeky new brand, No Jiggle (which achieves just that!), is taking on the big brands with a collection that celebrates form and function.

How would you describe No Jiggle in one sentence?

Hannah: It’s a luxury activewear brand designed for women by women, creating pieces designed specifically to highlight and flatter the female form.

Sarah: Beautiful stylish pieces designed to be worn both in and out of the gym: hard-working enough to support your workout but chic enough to wear with the rest of your wardrobe.

When did you launch and what inspired the name ‘No Jiggle’?

H: We launched in September 2014 – so still a very new company. We wanted a name that would separate us from other brands, represent what we are aiming to achieve (no jiggle) and keep it fun and little cheeky – like us and our designs!

S: When Hannah came up with the idea for No Jiggle I was still working at a fashion magazine. Being sisters and best friends we’d always dreamt of working together so I jumped at the opportunity.

What did you set out to create with your first collection?

H: I wanted to create pieces that were stylish yet functional and to create a collection that was ‘classic’ and not seasonal. I personally feel more confident when I look nice and feel comfortable, so this was paramount too. I achieved this by using premium technical fabrics for optimal functionality and comfort and used lines, shapes and seams to create flattering curves and streamline the figure.

S: It was really important to us that our ‘Classic Collection’ was exactly that: timeless and wearable. It had to be classic pieces that women can pair with other items from their activewear wardrobe as well as from their ‘normal’ wardrobe. To ensure we achieved this we focused on design – beautiful detailing like the triple straps on the Arabella tops, the draping on the back of the Lola top, the sheer inserts in the Elle leggings – rather than on colour and print.

What makes No Jiggle so special as a brand and as a fashion movement?

H: As women who work out, we only design with the female form in mind, all of our designs aim to highlight and compliment. We design with fashion and function in mind. We know that women want to mix and match items in their wardrobe so we take this into consideration. Our brand is polished and luxe with crosses over to the shopping experience.

S: We know what stylish women want to wear in the gym and beyond and understand the importance of wearing flattering pieces to work out in. If you don’t look good you won’t feel good, which plays such a huge role in performing well during your workout. We’re also sisters and best friends, designing everything ourselves and committing to having everything made in the U.K.

Which piece from your first collection is an absolute must-have?

H: I live in my Bianca top! It’s the perfect layering piece! When I’m teaching Pilates in a chilly studio it keeps me warm, but is thin, light and soft enough to wear while practicing or running outdoors. The thumbholes are SO comfy and it’s a bit longer over the bum – perfect for when I’m not feeling as toned as I’d like in that region!

Our Fifi leggings have without doubt become our signature piece down to the fact they are SUPER flattering (and a little cheeky), they fit extremely well and they don’t go see through. They’re our most popular item to date and we’ll continue to bring them out in each new collection in a variety of colours.

S: If I know I’m going out in the evening I will wear the Lola top. It’s all about the back: a stunning sheer racer back and draped back. I frequently pair it with skinny jeans and heels for a night out.

Can you tell us a little more about the faces behind the brand?

H: As a trained Pilates teacher with a background in fashion I felt the gap in the market for stylish active wear that can be worn both in and out of the gym. I wanted to create pieces that could take me from teaching Pilates to brunch with the girls to working out and that is how No Jiggle was born. Both me and my sister run No Jiggle together; all our lives we have wanted to work together and I feel lucky that No Jiggle has given us this opportunity.

My two favourite things are fashion and working out, I feel very blessed to have been able to combine the two and create a business in this field. We both live in our No Jiggle gear and maintain healthy lifestyles, we are very passionate about maintaining a healthy balanced lifestyle and we see ourselves as No Jiggle ambassadors.

S: I used to live a fairly toxic lifestyle: as a journalist at a glossy fashion magazine my life was fabulous but fast-paced and hectic. I was fuelled by caffeine and alcohol with very little time to exercise! I trained as a Pilates teacher in a bid to find a more holistic path and eventually when I left InStyle, everything fell in to place- I started teaching Pilates full time, adopted a better diet and became totally hooked on exercise. I now balance my teaching (at Lomax in Chelsea and private clients at home) with my No Jiggle commitments: the two go hand in hand beautifully!

My teaching gives me insight in to what women want to wear and what they truly do wear to work out in. I start every single day by doing something active, whether it’s a high-impact class in a sweaty men’s boxing gym or an elegant barre class – I find that working out first thing gives me such great energy and mental clarity. I’m lucky enough to live in central London so I walk EVERYWHERE and I keep my diet balanced by eating well through the week, then from Friday evening until Sunday night I allow myself to indulge. I’m a real foodie so I try to avoid alcohol, grains, dairy and refined sugar through the week, but Reese’s cups and wine can make an appearance on the weekend!

How do you see the British fitness fashion culture evolving?

H The fitness fashion market is one of the fastest growing sectors. More and more women are working out and taking a dynamic interest in their health and well being. It has become popular to eat well and work out. Exercise is no longer boring, with a variety of fitness classes popping up; exercise has become fun and a social activity too.

Activewear is no longer exclusive to the gym. Women are spending their days in activewear; from the morning school run, to coffee with the girls, to running errands to an afternoon gym class. Women want to feel and look nice and want pieces that tick these boxes; gone are the days when an old baggy sweatpants and t-shirt will do!

S: It’s an exciting time as we are witnessing the birth of a whole new industry. It is such a positive industry too – encouraging people to wear, live and love a healthy lifestyle. It’s becoming an increasingly competitive market – but one in which a really supportive community has grown – which is great.

What are your top No Jiggle fitness tips?

H: Whichever exercise and position you’re doing always engage your core and maintain good posture, not only will you have a better work out, you will have a ‘safer’ workout whilst teaching your body correct movement patterns. Always remain hydrated, sip water throughout the day, I find when I haven’t been drinking enough water I can’t concentrate and don’t have optimal energy.

S: My favourite all over body toner – which I get ALL my clients to do – is the plank. If you’re doing it correctly it really does work all the major muscle groups- abs, shoulders, arms, glutes.

My other top tip would be to find something that you love to do and do it often. Try boxing, yoga, dancing, running, pilates – I genuinely believe there is something active for everyone. Don’t force yourself to do an exercise just because it is popular or your friends are doing it – if you don’t love it you won’t give it your all and you will end up resenting your workout time!

Finally, not a fitness tip but one that will help in your fitness goals: Epsom salts. So inexpensive but SO beneficial. Whether you’re feeling achey, wired or bloated add a scoop to your bath and you will get rid of any DOMS, water retention will diminish and your whole nervous system will be relaxed.
