Welltodo Jetsetter: 5 Of The Best Value Fitness Holiday Destinations

The number of Brits planning a fitness holiday has doubled in the last year, according to new research from Travelex. Boozy holidays are officially a thing of the past and fitness inspired trips are in!

From naked yoga to Nordic walking… this new research shows that a third of Brits (made up largely by welltodo readers no doubt), are now likely to spend £500 or more on a fitness holiday.

“[It] shows that we are definitely looking to prioritise health in our spare time,” says Fitness on Toast blogger, Faya Nilsson. “There are so many exotic destinations you can jet off to, that don’t cost the earth, so there’s no excuse not to make 2015 your fittest year of travel yet.”

As part of the study, Faya – a seasoned traveller and self-confessed fitness junkie – revealed her top 5 destinations for toning up, losing weight, improving your mental health, mastering a new fitness skill… and not forgetting, some absolute relaxation as well.

STOCKHOLM

The first stop on Faya’s list of ‘active escapes’ takes us to her home country Sweden, where a curious and historic tradition has emerged as a great way to melt away the pounds in 2015. Long distance ice skating is not only a great way to take in Sweden’s stunning frozen scenery, but also happens to be a terrific calorie torcher. Faya recommends packing your low-cal hot chocolate and making for the lakes.

How much? A basic 5-6 hour introductory skate costs around £110 with ICEguide Stockholm.

VENICE

Yoga and Venice are not words usually uttered in the same sentence, but Faya claims that if you’re looking to find ‘whole body’ health this spring, Venice is the place to be. High above the bustle of the canals, rooftop yoga workshops are run all year round. With the added benefit of being in a European cultural centre, there are plenty of things to see and do when not on the mat.

How much? Private yoga classes at the YogaMio studio in Venice cost around £35.

Just a short hop across the Mediterranean, the Atlas Mountains are both picturesque and bursting with Moroccan culture. Faya recommends hiking through the epic scenery whilst burning an impressive 550 calories an hour.

How much? A guided two day expedition with Atlas Trek Shop will come to around £115.

Faya’s final travel fitness tip for 2015 is a paradise adventure that improves balance, coordination and gives you a great full body workout. If you’re looking for something completely out of the ordinary, set on a dreamlike island, trapeze training in Bali is for you.

How much? A 75 minute lesson with High Flyers Bali costs £25 and if the high bar isn’t for you, Bali offers up copious water sports adventures that will be sure to get the heart racing.
