Sweat 1000 | Fitness Studio

A workout that lives up to its name. This is the ‘it gym spot’ that was developed by three guys; Steve Uria and brothers Paul and Andrew Rothschild, in 2010. Sweat 1000 is an innovative training concept, which you will find most locals love to go to, to get an intense workout. It offers fun and dynamic workouts (which aim to help you burn up to 1000 calories in an hour). The classes consist of interval-style training that combine the use of specialised Incline Trainer treadmills, with core, functional and resistance floor work.

Steve has been in the fitness industry for almost 26 years and was voted by Vogue magazine as one of the 50 top trainers in the USA (boom!). This no membership fee class (great if you’re just stopping by like us), has classes as early as 5am and is one of the best full body workouts that you will ever experience! Go forth fitness lovers…

Plant Café | Plant-based Eatery

This café recently opened to promote plant-based food choices and target Cape Town locals who are vegans, or suffer from certain food allergies.

“Our objective is to supply clean, healthy nutrition optimised for today’s fast paced lifestyle,” say the founders.

The menu includes vegan sandwiches, wraps, burgers, salads and more! Everything is 100% plant based and ensures that their food is also free of preservatives and other nasties.

We love the fact that a percentage of their profits are donated to human-based or animal-based charities.

Nu café | Healthy Eatery

The only way we can describe this is pure culinary genius. It almost feels like a fast food restaurant but for healthy food. And… right next door to Sweat 1000. So, by starting your day with a gym class, followed by some food from the Nu Café; you’ve got yourself the perfect routine.

These guys make healthy food so trendy it hurts, and provide the freshest produce. Eye catching and mouth watering dishes included the Nü-Red Quinoa Salad – quinoa, raw beetroot, carrot, radish, pickled ginger, coriander, toasted sesame seeds, alfalfa sprouts and honey-sesame dressing, sesame salmon and rye, and the Secret Blu Functional Blend which includes purified water, banana, almond butter, dates, lucuma powder, cinnamon, almonds.

ORANJEZICHT City Farm | Farmers Market

Oranjezicht (which means orange view in Afrikaans) is a non-profit farm project celebrating local food, culture and community through urban agriculture. It takes place every Saturday from 9am-2pm.

The Oranjezicht City Farm is a community of adults and younger folk working together to engage in small-scale food production in Cape Town, in order to change the way public green spaces in the city are used. Because these spaces are often under-utilised, Oranjezicht creates hands-on community-wide food gardening education, which is slowly increasing access to fresh, nutritious vegetables for locals.
