GIGAFIT Lady Plots US Debut

GIGAFIT

GIGAFIT wants to redefine women’s fitness.

What’s happening: The French health club network — owner of six brands including Studio, Express and Lady — is launching a luxury version of its women-only concept in the US.

Dubbed Lady V4, the first iteration will hit Miami in 2025 before expanding to Los Angeles – with the goal of reaching 200 ladies-only locations over the next six years.

Femme x Fitness

Part of an ambitious international growth strategy, GIGAFIT will push its collection of concepts from 70 to 300 clubs by 2026, opening in the UAE, Maghreb countries, Spain, Portugal and the UK.

Figuring to be a key driver, GIGAFIT Lady V4 reimagines the existing GIGAFIT Lady concept, a two-unit women’s gym in France.

Fusing “futuristic and luxurious” design, group classes and customised strength training with wellness, spa and catering facilities, GIGAFIT founder Mountassir Bouhadba hopes to increase gym-going appeal to women everywhere.

“GIGAFIT Lady’s design appeals to women due to its luxurious and welcoming environment, personalised workout programmes focused on female goals, and modern facilities equipped with the latest technology.”

Sad stats. Ladies-only gyms are on the rise as women seek ways to overcome safety issues.

  • 42% of female gym-goers have experienced sexual harassment/intimidation.
  • 71% have had an uncomfortable experience, and 45% go with a friend to avoid unwanted encounters with men.
  • 76% report being watched, with standard gym design – “mirrors, lighting and layout” – considered conducive to surveillance.

Beyond unwanted interactions, 33% avoid going to the gym altogether for fear of feeling out of place – warranting the need for a supportive community of peers.

Takeaway: As awareness around women’s health grows, so does demand for safe fitness spaces that understand their unique needs. GIGAFIT Lady V4 aims to improve the problem, but as new concepts emerge – such as The Women’s Gym by Total Fitness in the UK last month – first-movers in the space will need to set the bar high.
