RSG Kicks Off McFIT Revamp

RSG Group

McFIT is getting an upgrade.

What’s happening: German-born fitness operator RSG Group is investing a “three-digit-million sum” to modernise its low-cost gym McFIT.

After piloting the rebrand – dubbed “McFit – The Original” – in Vienna and Heilbronn, it’ll apply the transformation across its 230-club estate by 2025.

“Modernisation offensive”. Upgrading layout, design and equipment, Co-CEO of RSG Hagen Wingertszahn says the holistic overhaul adapts to members’ changing needs.

“With the new look and feel, modified training concepts and fresh ideas, we are opening the next chapter of McFIT and making ourselves fit for the future.”

Investing in women’s strength, clubs are scaling up dedicated female-only zones while adding studio-in-studio spaces and boosting functional and endurance areas.

Staying strong. Counting 4.5M members across 14 brands – including Gold’s Gym, JOHN REED and HEIMAT – RSG’s global strategy is both HVLP and high-end.

  • It acquired Gold Gym’s 61 owned clubs and 600 franchises for $100M in 2020.
  • RSG debuted luxury wellness club HEIMAT in 2022, followed by a women’s-only extension with Waris Dirie in Paris.
  • It’s expanding JOHN REED in California as part of US localisation efforts.

Making tradeoffs to invest in the experience of its highest-performing clubs, RSG sold 42 Spanish McFIT and five Holmes Place sites to Basic-Fit this year.

Takeaway: As Germany’s largest fitness chain by membership, a modern makeover will keep McFIT the top spot for younger generations in the DACH region and beyond for years to come.
