Campsider Raises €2.5M for Second-Hand Sports Gear

The circular economy is attracting consumers and capital.

The latest: French outdoor sports equipment marketplace Campsider secured €2.5M in a round led by Founders Future, with €400K reserved for crowdfunding.

Tapping demand for pre-loved goods – and joining Backmarket, Vestiaire Collective, Vinted and rival Decathlon’s Seconde Vie store – Campsider ups outdoor access through a range of lower-priced gear.

Building on a €2M pre-seed round in 2022, Campsider counts 150K members and €5M in annual sales. Scaling up, the fresh funds will fuel category expansion, from golf to horse riding, and new geographical markets.

Nature rules. The fundraise reflects global interest in nature-based pursuits, adventure tourism and outdoor sports.

  • Mountain escapes comprise up to 17% of international visits in Europe and Americas, amounting to 375M tourists.
  • According to Strava’s annual report, gravel cycling and trail running activities increased by 55% and 16%, respectively, from last year.
  • The markets for triathlon and trail running clothing are both expected to nearly double by 2030, with the latter’s shoe market hitting ~$7B.

And, marketing the outdoors with the comforts of home, demand for remote cabins and adventure lodging is surging.

Takeaway: Good for business and the environment, increasing access to the outdoors and used gear is a win-win for consumers and platforms like Campsider.
