John Lewis Launches In-Store Health Clinics

John Lewis

UK retailer John Lewis will soon offer full-body health checks and personalised health plans.

The latest: In partnership with health diagnostics company Randox Health, preventative health hubs (available in select stores) will deliver programmes to optimise nutrition and physical performance, improve gut and hormonal health, and address other health concerns.

Adopting a test-to-treat approach, following sample analysis, customers will receive a breakdown of results alongside advice, with specific packages also including GP consultations.

Why it matters: As consumers continue to spend big on wellness, retailers are plugging gaps left by struggling healthcare services while catering to demand for consumer-led care.

Meeting people where they are with convenient and accessible paths to well-being, the play is positioning retailers as a gateway for holistic health.

Health Benefits

From hospitals to high streets, retailers are adding value as nontraditional healthcare providers.

  • Partnering with health diagnostics company Thriva, UK retailer Superdrug offers in-clinic health testing, personalised reports and GP guidance.
  • The UAE’s Zest Pharmacy provides preventative health plans based on in-store health checks, with expansion set for 25 stores over two years.
  • Aussie retailer Woolworths’ online portal HealthyLife offers same-day virtual visits with GPs, nutritionists and naturopaths, as well as prescription delivery.
  • Alongside DTC diagnostics, the UK’s Holland & Barrett recently piloted in-store genetic testing for personalised nutrition and skincare recommendations.

Thinking big, retailers like Walmart, Target, and Kroger continue to scale health clinics, virtual care and DTC health tests across the US.

Also getting in on the action, US gym Life Time, Australia’s Saint Haven and the UK’s KXU deliver medical treatments alongside fitness.

Looking ahead: As pressures on existing healthcare systems mount, the opportunity for unconventional players is growing. Already providing health-boosting products, for retailers, add-on preventative care services are a stepping stone towards converting customers to patients.
